P3D Sharpness Anxiety
>What am I missing? I thought there would be a big difference
>between different models, but I don't see it.
Who said that there should be a BIG difference between different
models? I have always said that there is very small difference
in image quality between different stereo cameras. Maybe you could
see some differences if you use wide open apertures (which I don't
think you did) and look at the edges. But no one shoots this way
in real life. Also, if you plan to do that, you should make sure
that the infinity focus is adjusted in each camera or it would be
an unfair comparison.
I have been puzzled by statements that camera or lens A is better
than B. I have tried Realist 2.8s, 3.5's, Belplascas, Ektar lenses,
Kodaks, etc. I don't see any differences worth worrying about,
especially under normal shooting conditions (usually at f8 or f11).
I've always said that it is better to have a camera which is
mechanically better (reliable) than "optically better". And that
the best bargain is the $99 Realist. Still, some people want
to invest thousands of dollars for the dream of "the sharpest
camera ever made".
This "sharpness anxiety" is a disease that strikes the best of us.
I went through that and, after wasting a lot of time and money,
I have fully recovered and I am back to using a Realist 3.5. And
I now tell people to concentrate on getting better pictures, not
finding a better stereo camera. And I really believe it!!!
