In looking at Tom's illustration "winner2.gif" I am struck by how many of the
curves shown overlap for sometimes considerable portions and particularly how
close the 1:30 line is  to all of them for many situations.  Although the 1:30
rule can be way off for certain extremes, it clearly is an acceptable "rule of
thumb" for many, if not most, mainstream applications.
