In the Winter of My Stereo Discontent ( Oct. 1994), I was having a blast playing w/
my Realist Film ID Unit (currently on EBay) by making some crude Macro Stereos.

"Hey," I thought, "this is pretty sharp...if only I could rig this to take Real Time
Macro Stereo!"

Dream on. Then I saw a picture of Franklin Flock's twin SLRs
attached to the Steitz Framesplitter for stereo macros.

"Hey," I said to startle myself again, "maybe - - I- - can be the first to make some
kind of Realist-to-Macro rig. Yeah, that's right, an add-on mirror framesplitter thingie...and produce them for, say, under $300-$500!"

I then hooked up w/ a semi-retired optical engineer (who made stereo video micro
surgery thingies for Westinghouse((?)). He was intrigued by my idea and only charged
me a few hundreds of dollars to draft out an optical path diagram and lens specs.

I have it. I have the crude plan here in my hand. The dream of every low-budget
stereographer. But the "guffen" was -- I'd probably need a custom, hi-quality
Fresnel, not to mention, an overall manufacturer. I had no takers.
