P3D More Errata with Apology

I make lots of mistakes. I'm obliged to report this one.
I used the term "depth control" in a recent posting, and attributed it
to Herbert McKay - by way of making a point about manipulating depth
in stereo pictures through base alteration.
I went back to the book and found to my dismay that McKay used the
term "space control" and only in the context of trick stereographs
that make individual objects appear at other than their natural size
and distance. The "lady in the wineglass" illusion is an example he
uses. And far from proving the usefulness of calculation, he clearly
says that for this purpose he likes to construct a sighting device,
rather than use "untrustworthy and tedious" computation. Darned
shame, because I think it is useful to coin the term "depth control"
as a general, not just trick, topic in stereo, as opposed to "space
control" which is already used in 2D photography in reference to
non-stereoscopic depth cues and their manipulation.
I don't think this in any way invalidates my view of the issue. I was
just wrong to invoke McKay as an advocate of artistic distortion of
stereo "space", with or without math. I still think "depth control"
as I define it deserves as much consideration, and discussion, as
exposure, depth of field, and all the other technical tools at the
stereo artist's disposal.
Thanks for your indulgence.
