Good point, Eric. There are actually a number of monocular depth
cues by which even people who have one eye or who are stereoblind
"see" dimension. A few of them are:

1. Scale -- relative scale as depth cue.
2. Atmosphere -- haze, diminution of tone as depth increases.
3. Occlusion -- overlapping contours or edges
4. Foreshortening

When parallax stereopsis is combined with these monocular cues for depth
the result can be a very powerful 3-D image.

Many computer "3-D" programs use strictly monocular cues in a very
effective way. Add (parallax) binocular stereopsis to this array
of "flat" depth cues and the stereo experience can be quite dramatic.
