FWIW I have to agree completely with Eric on this subject.  To
me, the goal of stereo photography is to produce good images that
include the use of depth via parallax.  Using parallax isn't the
end-all end purpose of stereo photography, stereo photography is
a means to an end, and those "illusions of percepted distance" are
other tools that contribute to the same end goal, and therefore are
significant tools in achieving that end goal.

IMHO anyway.
