Another use for filtering is for re-direction rather than blocking. I'm on
several lists which I direct off to a special mail file and read as I have time.
Of course that sort of thing is more like collecting reference material than actually
participating in a list - for example, I'm on a low-volume list for antique-radios which
I will accumulate from September to December, but have a chance to read during
Christmas vacation...

This is pretty easy to do in Unix - I've never tried it with a Mac or PC.
