P3D PSA Image of the Year - Congratulations!

Just got back my slides and results from the PSA "Image of
the Year" judging in the PSA convention held a few weeks ago
in Orlando Florida.

Top P3d/PSA award goes to:

Andrea S. Blair for a 3rd Place award (yeah!!!)

Congratulations also to:

- Ron Fredrickson, one HM award (card)
- Carole Honigsfled, two HM awards (cards)
- Andrea Blair, one HM award (slide)
- Boris Starosta, one HM award (slide)
- George Themelis :-), two HM awards (slides)

(Out of a total of a 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and 17 HMs)

Unfortunately I missed the convention, being very close to the NSA
convention, BUT next year I am determined to attend the convention
which is held in TORONTO (only 5-6 hours from Cleveland).

Boris, do you still think PSA is a century behind? :-) As I said,
it all depends on the judges and the circumstances. PSA as a body
has all kinds of photographers and thinkings. It cannot be grouped
into one mind frame. The judges this year were: Bill Payne (known
for his computer 3d work), Don Wratten (of the Stereoscopic Society
UK, whom I had the pleasure of meeting last year) and Milan Sedio
(unknown to me).

About my two awarded slides: No Realist! Both SINGLE SLR stereos,
one a handheld hyperstereo and the other a tabletop. I did not
measure the stereo base on any of the two. Not even for the
tabletop for which I had plenty of time to think, measure, design,
etc. I did not bracket any of the two for either base or exposure.
Why am I saying this? Do I suggest that math or measurements are
unimportant and should be ignored? Nope. Simply, it is possible
to take good stereo pictures without any measurement or calculations
or lots of film use (waste).

Also of interest, both slides were entered in Detroit (at different
dates) and did not win first place (maybe they placed but not at the
top) and also one of the two has not been accepted in a previous PSA
salon. This is an example of how variable and objective judgment can
be.

Regards -- George Themelis
