P3D Re: Need for a Separate Sell-3D?

OK, now that I have established myself as one of the biggest users
of the sell-3d list BOTH as a seller AND a buyer, let's discuss
some of the points that Tom is raising.

>What I was really wondering is, does having a separate Sell-3D List
>accomplish its original intention of reducing unwanted traffic on the
>Photo-3D List.

No, that was not the reason for starting sell-3d. Commercial postings
were only tolerated in photo-3d, not encouraged. Sell-3d was invented
as a way to allow commercial postings and don't bother those who support
non-commercial flow of information in the internet.

>There does seem to be some agreement from Photo-3D List members that
>some of these types of postings are acceptable, but there are no rules
>as to how much is too much.

That's why we have the moderators. (Yes, we do have moderators!!!)
A moderator will step in when something is too much and this has
happened in the past. Moderator intervention will set the limits.

>As a potential buyer, this is where I would like to hear the discussion,
>not in the digest mode on another List.

Then why don't you get in ACK mode in photo-3d too? You will not be
able to tell immediately which list is the message coming from.

Here is one of the biggest issues. If we combine the two lists are
you going to be in ACK mode in the "unified" list? That's why I want
two separate lists. I am compulsive "buyer". I want to get sell-3d
in ACK mode. I don't mind getting photo-3d in Digest mode (which I
do in my att account). If we combine the lists I will be forced
to get the one list in ACK mode. Hence I will have to learn about
filters, etc. :-)

No, I'd rather have separate lists. Let moderator intervention
set the limits. I have no problem with the few "announcements" in
photo-3d when a new product is introduced. Discussing prices and
terms of sale is the limit for me. Overall, I think sell-3d has been
working very well.
