P3D Q & A

Questions from Jeremy Illingworth:

>1. If you could only have one lens, that's it, what would it be.
>1b. And then what would your second lens be?
>2. Do (twin cable releases) work well? How good is the sync?
>3. If you shoot prints, do you always do ViewMagic types or have you
> ever made any Holmes style cards or other print formats?
>4. And slides. What's better, twin 2x2 or RBT 8 perf mounts?
>5. Can a Rever 22 viewer be made to accomodate 8 perf?
>5b. What can?
>6. Anything else you have to say is just dandy with me.

Answers (IMO, of course):

1. 45 to 55 mm (normal). f1.8 or f2 aperture (don't need 1.4 which adds
extra money and weight). Some people would say 35 mm. I won't.
I use 45/2 lenses in my Minolta X700. Very compact and about $20 ea.
1b. 135/3.5 (again, don't need 2.8). This is an inexpensive choice that
will open you into portraits and new possiblities.
2. OK but not great. Better than nothing. Electric release is prefered
but don't think your Nikons are electrically fired.
3. I don't shoot prints but know many people who do Holmes etc. No problem.
4. It's up to you. I use the 101x41 mm stereo system so I go for RBT.
5. Problem with the Revere: The reflector will cutoff the image.
5b. A Realist red button (my specialty!) Brenda has modified a Kodaslide II.
6. Go for it!!! Just do i! Good luck! (Can I borrow your AI program? :-))

Dick Twichell asks:

>I picked up one of those mint-with-box-and-IB Revere viewers ($75) and
>wonder if he has converted one to 7-p? Any tips?

Great price on that Revere Dick! The Revere viewer is supposed to be 7p.
But it is very tight and tends to cut off just a little bit. Use a
file to open up the sides that seem to block the image.
