The following appeared recently in the University of New Hampshire
Alumni Electronic Newsletter. Alas I will not be able to attend this
myself, but it may be of interest to others in the New England region.

* DR. ROBERT CHASE '45 of Stanford, Calif., will receive the 1998 Pettee
Medal at a ceremony at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 2, in the Memorial Union
Building. The public is invited. Please call the Alumni Center at (603)
862-2040 if you plan on attending. Chase, a world-renowned physician,
surgeon and medical educator, will present a 3-D demonstration of how
stereoscopy (three-dimensional imagery) can be used as an educational tool.
After completing his undergraduate studies at UNH, Chase earned his medical
degree from Yale University, and then taught at Yale until 1963, when he
was appointed professor and chair of the department of surgery at Stanford
University School of Medicine. Chase played a important role in the
founding of Interplast, a group of physicians who teach state-of-the-art
techniques in reconstructive surgery to doctors in underdeveloped countries
around the world.
