I just received in the mail a brochure for a special event next February in
Minneapolis, MN. So for anyone around the area (or others interested), here's
the info:
As part of the University of MN Northrup Jazz Season, on Sat. Feb. 13, 1999 at
8:00 pm there will be an event titled "Monsters of Grace". It is "a digital
opera in three dimensions and is a new and continually evolving work by composer
Philip Glass and director/designer Robert Wilson. Monsters spectators wear 3D
glasses to view Wilson's sequence of computer-created video images - each
performance advancing the 3-D animation pioneered by Silicon Graphics of
Jurassic Park fame. The accompanying score, performed live by Philip Glass and
ensemble with vocal soloists, was composed by Glass for live amplified voices,
woodwinds, keyboards, Macintosh computers, MIDI interface, and Middle Eastern
string and percussion instruments. The libretto of ecstatic love songs (sung in
English) is based on the 13th-century poetry of mystic Jalaladin Rumi.
Co-presented by Walker Art Center".
So there you go! Just what we in the midwest will need in the middle of winter
:-)
Ticket prices are $28, $22, $16
Phone orders to the Univ. Arts ticket office: 612-624-2345
Enjoy,
Alexa
