Well, to spin things in a positive light (kind of), the APS initiative
that has been sort of referred to is only a short term effort at best
anyway.  In twenty years film will be relegated the roll that glass
photographic media has now.  Perhaps still there, but in a niche. So
APS will be gone then too, if it lasts that long.
