Don't forget 127 rollfilm, the Instamatic cartridge and the 110
cartridge. Obsolete a film format every few years so the public has to
buy a new camera periodically. That's how to keep an industry alive!
 NOT!

Don't forget it took at least 40 years to obsolete 127 and 620, about 35 years
for the original instamatic 126, and over 25 years for the "pocket instamatic"
110. Disk film, however lasted less than ten years. This shortening of
product cycles reminds me of the automobile market. The air cooled VW Beetle
is still in production after nearly 50 years. How long did the Ford Model T
last? Detroit and the Japanese recycle names while changing everything else
(look at the Corvette, or the Thunderbird).

My question is: are these reactive responses to changing customer demands, or
deliberate, pro-active (is that really a word?) efforts to force a change in
the market?
