that not obsoleting existing televisions was worth the price of
crippling color broadcasting for decades to come.  Fifty years later, we
are still living with the consequences of this decision.  It was not a
technical nor market-driven decision.  It was a political decision.



It is also a Federal Communications Commission Law, too. BTW: According to
the FCC, no signals can be broadcast that compel the viewer to purchase
special devices in order to view the signal. Even Stereo Motion Pictures
must be not be broadcast in such a way that they can't be viewed without
special devices. Granted, glasses of some type are required to see the
images in stereo, but the images can also be viewed flat.
