Yup - I have a 15" SONY trinitron, circa 1976, that still looks
great, although the ultrasonic remote cratered many years ago. Since
I use it on channel 3 from my satellite dish that's a moot point,
though.

|transmissions
|continued well into the '70s.

I read once that since people in the UK pay a per set licensing
fee, the government knew where the sets were and what standard
they were using. I seem to recall that the last user of the 405 line
standard was an elderly lady who was given a "modern" set so they
could finally turn off the last transmitter. Maybe Tony has more details
on this.
