P3D Light Years Ahead Of Stereo and Virtual Reality...

I just installed a Satellite Dish and while channel surfing through the
vast wasteland, I came across a television program that I thought was very
interesting. Not specifically Stereo related, but might interest the group
all the same. I think it was on TDC - The Discovery Channel, but I am not
sure.

There is a respected dream researcher that teaches people how to do what is
called Lucid Dreaming. This is any dream where you are aware that you are
in a dream. Once you are aware you are having a dream, they say that you
can do anything you can think of. Things like flying, or whatever.

I only mention this here because the researcher has developed a sleep mask
that uses infrared sensors to tell when your eyes are moving. This
indicates that you are in REM Sleep. This movement causes other lights to
blink and supposedly you can tell this while sleeping, and alerts you to
the fact you are dreaming so the fun can begin. As I understand it, you
will somehow notice the lights whole in dream state and this then alerts
you that you are not real, just dreaming. I remember reading in a book by
Arthur C. Clark (?) a brief mention of these devices and he revised the
book and put in a paragraph asking people not to contact him with requests
for info about the device. So I will assume there might be something to it.

I have not tried to find out about this, but who knows. I gather that the
phenomena is well known and has been used in the past to help people with
sleep disorders and other problems. All I can say is it would be really
nice to be able to Lucid Dream. Imagine...you could create a world of your
own in color and do anything you felt like doing.
