Actually, the so called 'quarterplate' does not depolarize the polarized
light. It changes the vibration direction and causes it to move in a
helical pattern. There are different versions of these retarders; quarter
wave and half wave to be specific. The 'quarterplate does not depolarize
light, it simply changes the 'Spin'; for lack of a better word.
