The first thing that comes to mind is whether you are using 35mm negatives
or 120 (which commonly utilize 80mm enlarging lenses). If you are using 120
then the 50mm lens will not cover the edges.
If you're using 35mm then the lens should be fine and I believe the exposure
will be pretty similar. I'm sure that out of the thousands of enlargements
I've made I have done some with both of these lenses and I seem to recall
the operative factor being the size of the negative, not the size of the
lens, all other things being equal. In any event, if you make a good print
from a negative you have printed before, then you will be able to obtain a
factor between the 2 prints that should hold for other negatives.
