Although Rolland has received a number of replies (visible on P3D)
indicating that he is okay with 2x2s at many clubs, I want to indicate that
at least as far as PSA exhibitions are concerned, 41 x 101 "Realist" mounts
appear to rule the day. (And the exhibitions are run by stereo photography
clubs, so this should indicate what format they prefer to exhibit).

In 1998, the only exhibitions that accepted my 2x2 stereo slides in their
native format were the Third Dimension Society (in England) and the DGS (in
Germany). The remaining exhibitions (about a dozen in the U.S.) accepted
only 41 x 101 "Realist" format mounts.

My first ever exhibition, the Potomac, accepted 2x2s last year. That is
why I sent them some slides, and received an encouraging result. This year
Potomac did not accept 2x2s. Had I missed last year's Potomac exhibition,
and the opportunity to send in my 2x2s, I might never have gotten started
with the PSA exhibitions. Exhibition organizers, and PSA illuminati take
note.

(Although the Southern Cross Exhibition (in Australia) nominally accepts
2x2s, they do not accept vertical format - thus excluding the only true
"format advantage" of 2x2s, and therewith some of my best images. Some of
my best images have never been seen in U.S. exhibitions because they are
vertical format, and cannot be mounted in the 41 x 101 "Realist" format.)

Note that although 41 x 101 "Realist" mounts are the most commonly used for
exhibition, I continue to do my serious work with a twin SLR setup. But I
have my reasons: stay tuned for a re-post of the famous "twin-rig vs.
Realist-type stereo camera" comparison. For Rolland's benefit, among
others.

Boris
