P3D The Dunkley Effect
- From: Bruce Springsteen <bsspringsteen@xxxxxxxxx>

I have seen the Dunkley Effect (strong depth perception in "flat"
photographs through partial blocking of the field of view) courtesy of
a starter viewer from Ken himself. I am a died-in-the-wool skeptic by
nature and philosophy, and not susceptible to suggestion, mass frenzy
or flim-flam. ;-) Something is going on in the perceptual apparatus
that is "between" stereopsis and the non-stereoscopic depth cues in
flat photography, but I don't know just what. I am seeing something
that meets all of Ken's criteria for recognizing his effect. Further,
and probably to his dismay, I believe I can experience the effect by a
slight squinting and convergence of my eyes, without aid of devices,
pinkies or other objects - as a result of having trained with his
device. The effect is not as strong as may be possible by other
means, but for me it is quite pronounced - and works under some
situations that Ken himself has suggested mightn't - for instance at
the movies and with poor-quality black & white photocopies.
Anyone wishing to send private email or retire to the appropriate mail
list - P3D (practical?) or T3D (theoretical?) - to encourage me in (or
disabuse me of) this heretic belief is welcome to do so. My current
email-checking rate is about once every 3 days, so prepare for that
rate of response.
Best to you all, especially the newbies and infrequent posters piping
up of late.
