This sound like a "Camerascope" viewer I have a couple of these which are
slightly different from one another. The stage can be removed to take a
different even larger pair, the smaller views were cigarette cards produced
by Wills I think. They were in series such as "Peeps into Prehistoric
times" of model dinosaurs and "Peeps into Other Lands" you could send of
for the viewer by post it originaly cost 5s UK I think. One of mine cost me
8 pounds UK and the other about 40 together with a lot of the largest size
views in boxed sets.
