P3D Realist Vignetting
A while back I posed questions about my Realist f/3.5 vignetting at f/16
wherein I expected it (per common shared experience) to happen at f/22, but
was surprised when I saw it at f/16. I had been using push-on haze filters,
as someone once advised it was "safe" to use haze filters all the time, and
that a set of filters would protect the lenses.
Greg Wageman offered off-list: "It seems they could [contribute to/cause
vingetting at f/16]. You should be able to see it yourself, though, by
opening the shutters (use the T setting) and sighting through the lens along
the corners of the film gates. Try it both with the filters on, and off, and
look for differences."
Finally got to testing this over the weekend. Using ground glass, set on T
and pointing at a bright light, I fooled with f/16 and f/22 with filters on
and off. I concluded that, yes, stock-standard Realist-manufactured push-on
filters will cause vignetting at f/16 on the Realist f/3.5, I could see the
shady corners with my own eyeballs.
Thanks, Greg.
