P3D "Them!" on AMC

I've been catching bits of "Them!", the giant ant classic film, on AMC's
Halloween programming.  This film made this list before by virtue of a
Realist camera used by the scientist/professor's daughter character in a
helicopter...I'd also point out she used the camera (with flash) in a giant
ant colony later on, and her pictures were being looked at with slide
viewers afterward - though the blowup pictures didn't look like 5p format -
maybe she had an early 7p model? :^)

I'd also heard here the film was originally planned as 3-d color but budget
considerations had it released flat in B&W - is this true?  Because the
composition looks like it has a lot of thoughtful depth to it - none of
that in-your-face, throw-stuff-at-the-screen business...maybe the
filmmakers were getting some sophistication down before the process got
yanked totally.
