The film is the subject of a lot of rumors concerning the possibility of it
being done in 3D. The general consensus is that it was PLANNED in 3D, but
the plans were dropped early on because of budget. (The fact that the ants
were full-sized models rather than the optical effects that were more
common in '50s "big bug" movies is generally given as "proof" that it was
planned to be in 3D, as the optical effects would not be possible in the
stereo process.) Since it was definitely NOT shot in 3D, I don't know how
much effect advance planning would have had on compositions. Probably not a
lot.
