P3D Stereo clubs need active members

I am impressed with the dedication of stereographers all over the
country. Your 2 and 3 hour commutes make my 1 and 1/2 hours seem like a
breeze! It always amazes me how many people miss out on activities
because they would have to drive over 15 minutes to participate. I
understand there is a small percentage of people who do not drive
extended distances for various reasons, but I have seen perfectly fit
individuals miss meetings, field trips, and workshops because of the
distance. What a shame. We encourage carpooling for our club activities.
A lack of volunteers is the ever-present complaint of most clubs,
whatever the theme. Sometimes talking to the members individually can
produce the desired result. You may have people willing to help but
afraid to speak up in front of a crowd. Making people feel comfortable
and appreciated (as members) is essential before asking them to help run
the club! I also echo Dr. T.'s sentiments on a good newsletter. This is
sometimes the only ties some people have with their club. As much club
activity information should be in print to inform those who cannot make
the monthly meetings so they have a chance to attend these activities as
well.
Good luck to the San Jose and surrounding area people in starting a new
club. Please feel free to e-mail me off the list for any suggestions or
questions. I am past president of both a club and a council and have
been a very active member and activity coordinator in several clubs.
