P3D What kind of flash do you use?

Hello all,
I picked up a Vivitar 285 because it seemed to be "reportedly" the
most reliable and reasonably priced flash out there for us
stereotypes. I have been VERY happy with it, but I am wondering if
there is a flash that can give me at least 2 more stops of light?
If so, I would asume it would be a potato masher type, and probably
cost at least 3 times as much.
If that is the case, has anyone shot using 2 flashes at the same time
(one on the hotshoe, and one on a bracket)?
If no one has tried this, I can give it a go. I have 2 of the 285s
and a bracket. I just would like to use one of the auto settings on
the flash, and I don't know how to adjust for having two flashes.
Would I need to do it with the manual setting?
Lincoln Kamm
(hoping to shoot every thing at f11 with 100 speed astia, and if
possible f11 with kodachrome 64)
