>>I'd have to disagree with you there; you lose "the sense of stereo
depth"
as soon as one eye goes, & no amount of memory is going to help you with
that.

It really depends upon the situation. There are many people who get by with
one eye and have very little problems in judging 'Depth'. It also depends
upon if the person lost sight later in life or was blind in one eye from
birth.

If you put a patch over one eye (I had one last year from a chemical splash
- I was Stereo Blind for a few days) you will have very little problem
going about your business. At the time, I was teaching soldering and I had
no problem doing fine work. I got use to being 2D. The reason, I suspect,
was I knew my surroundings, my tools, my house, etc., and my memory
compensated for it. I could pick up my tools, adjust equipment, place and
solder parts on a PCB.

What I discovered, and it is hard to explain, is that there was an apparent
depth in a 2D world. I could not see depth, but I relied upon my memory for
help. I had no problems negotiating.

So i will ask the question: If not memory, then what? As soon as you cover
an eye, you no longer see Stereo. And if you try to get around, pick up
objects from your desk or drive your car, you will have very little
problems. The only problem is, I suspect that it will get harder after
being 2D for awhile.
