There is not much that can be done about this.... Some slides might
benefit from this contrast boost but if you want faithful
duplication then you have to use special films.  An extra problem
is that these films require filtration and that changes from batch
to batch.

Seems that this is only a problem of stereo mounting, not duplication.
Things are easier if you can maintain alignment between the two
chips during duplication.  

I use my SLR camera with bellows and the slide copying unit and 
duplicating film.  It works but it is a pain in the b... so I 
normally only do it for special effects (enlargement, color
correction, exposure correction, etc.).  The quality of the copies
never matches that of the original, so it is better to take more
pictures in the first place!
