Jimmy,
I have recently had some pretty good luck using a slide duplicating tube
that I bought specifically for my Konica FT-1. You can find these
advertised in the back ad pages of various photo magazines. They have
tubes that can be mounted in virtually any camera.
I purchased the duplicating tube that has a zoom adjustment so I can
fill the viewfinder of my camera with the image. It does cut out some
of the picture though. Still, if set at 1-1 instead of zooming in, you
can get the whole slide (along with some dark borders when developed.
Since 2x2 slides are bigger than the standard Realist format, I made an
adapter out of balsa wood. This adapter is as wide as a standard 2x2
slide and twice as long. I cut out the middle of the wood slightly
narrower than a Realist slide mount. I then pressed grooves into the
upper and lower part so the Realist slide would fit snugly and not
move. The thing looks like this...

When a Realist slide was slid in, the slide was perfectly centered.
Then I could zoom in and crop the image as much as I wanted.
I'm still looking for a good way to do this with a scanner. Of course,
the first thing I need is a scanner!
HTH,
Ron
