P3D X3 vs. S1

The S1's spacing is 59 mm.  The difference from 65 to 59 mm is very
small.  Also small is the difference from 65 to 70 mm.  If you compare
59 mm with 75 mm then you might start seeing something.

I've mentioned that, for me, the slightly smaller interocular spacing
of the S1 is an advantage.  It allows close-ups that will project
better.  I like close-ups and I like projection.  Hence I'd rather
go for smaller than larger.

The bottom line is that it depends on your shooting style and 
subjects of interest.  I rarely use a tripod.  I like quick 
grab shots.  Hence I feel that the S1, being more compact (about
as heavy and long as the Realist - and you guys thought the
Realist was heavy!), autofocus and smaller base, is a better 
choice for my type of photography.  For situations where I have
the time to set a tripod and take my time framing the shot
then I might as well use two SLRs which will give me flexibility
in selection of lenses and stereo base.
