P3D 3D at OCCC report for 1998.

For those who may wonder what happened at our Community College 3D
exhibition and show on November 18th, I will report that we had a great
show by Jon Golden. All together, he presented to an audience of about
a hundred (if you add up the total from the three presentations he
did.) Jon also joined the students for an exhibition for four hours.
His cameras and viewers were a real hit with all who participated.
Thanks Jon!!
Students were prepared to talk about each exhibit, whether it was
their own work that was on display, or the work of professionals from
what I choose to call the 3D community.
One team developed an audio script for the Mars exploration analglyph
projection slides. They have given me permission to offer the use of
their sound track and the NASA slides for any club that would like to
use it for a short (under ten minutes) show.
Another team illustrated the monocular cues to depth perception by
linking each cue to a well known work of art. That show is not ours to
share, except in the exhibition. All together, we presented nine
exhibits and three projection theater type events.
Next year, my thought is to create an "invitation only exhibition"
and an evening theater event that will be open to the general public.
It really is not too soon to begin plans for next year.
I would appreciate any feedback from you, if you who attempted to
involve new people in the experience of 3D. I have offered to set up
(lead) a workshop at NSA '99 on the development of 3D clubs,
societies, dinners (a la Tom Deering), Web groups, exhibitions and any
other creative ways by which we recruit others and share our common
interest with one another. My style of leadership for a workshop is to
gather together those who have experiences to share. The workshop at
NSA '98 that I led drew upon the experience of Bob Zeller, and John
Waldsmith, as well as my own experience as the publisher of a stereo
view book. Again, I will need your help in person at Green Bay, if
possible, or at least in terms of ideas to share.
