P3D RE: WIDESCREEN

Hi friends,

Here's a subject I could not let fly by on Thanksgiving Weekend without putting in my 'halfpennyworth'. We're not called The Widescreen Centre for nothing. We still sell anamorphic ('squeeze/de-squeeze') lenses which is the basis of most professional cinema widecreen.

The BBC have been using our lenses to produce 16/9 format widecreen with standard video cameras.

In fact we have long been the U.K. representatives for SOCIETE TECHNIQUE D'OPTIQUE DE PRECISION (and they don't come much longer than that). They were the original company formed by late Professor Henri Chrietien way back in 1923 to promote his invention of the HYPERGONAR anamorphic lens.....you all came to know this better as a 'CinemaScope' lens by the time that Sol Skourus of 20th Century Fox bought the idea from Chretien (for about $10,000 - a bargain!) in 1953 and commenced filming THE ROBE in the new 2.55:1 format.....the rest is cinema history!

The professor received an Oscar for his invention in 1955.

Any questions?

Regards

Tony Shapps
