P3D Informal nature of photo-3d?
Since I "discovered" photo-3d I have been of the opinion that this
medium is great for informal interaction.
One problem with informal postings is that someone might take them too
seriously. I have been advised to be careful about what I write, limit
my comments to facts, etc. IMO, this is contrary to the nature of the
medium. If I am going to take my time, think twice what I say, spell
check the text, print it and read it and revise it a couple of times,
give it to someone else to read, etc., then I might as well write an
article (or letter to the Editor) in one of the prominent stereoscopic
journals.
This does not mean that we can be totally careless about what we
write here but we do not have to be EXTRA careful or most of the charm
and appeal of the medium would be lost. I think those of use who receive
the 25K DAILY postings understand this point. Those who do not receive
this daily bombardment maybe don't understand it but if we are going to
forward them selected postings then maybe we should make an effort to
explain it to them.
Question: Do people in this forum find any value to the informal,
"behind the scenes", postings of stereo club activities?
I would personally like to see more of these type of postings in
photo-3d. It is good to know what other clubs are doing and what
kind of issues are being discussed, etc. A dry official summary
would be OK but if someone can inject some humor that would be
even better! (I must admit I get a kick out of Mark Dottle's postings
about the Ohio Stereo Photographic Society...)
