P3D Removal of the spring clips
I was taught to do it this way by Bud Shipler, who was taught by a David
White Sales Representatives. Usually, the reason one needs to replace the
cap and clips is because the lens cap needs to be replaced or the clips
fall off. The trick is to avoid bending the clips and to fit the clip on
the cover and at the attachment point at the same time. The replacement
clips I used had rolled edges to provide a point to grab on. I was never
really fast at it, but Bud was. Some clips I think have bent edges at the
ends.
It is tricky to do - at least for me as the clip has to fit into the slot
where the attach to the camera as well as to the back of the lens cap. The
lens cap on the Realist was never designed to be removed and replaced to
suit the situation. I suspect the factory did it differently, but I am not
sure about this.
My suggestion is to leave the cap on and forget removing it. Eventually you
will deform the clips and then you will play heck trying to find new ones.
