P3D Re: Cleaning the rangefinder on a realist

By top and bottom window you mean the glass in front, the mirrors inside,
or the little viewing lens in the back?
To access most of it without removing the bottom, start by taking the
lens board off (4 screws in front, two at the top). With the lens
board off you can remove and clean the rangefinder glass windows
in the front and blow air to remove dust in the mirrors.
For total access to the rangefinder mechanisms, you should remove the
bottom plate. There are five small screws hidden behind the leather.
Four are at the four corners and one close to the serial mumber.
Peal the edges of the leather carefully. With the bottom removed
you can see how the thing works and clean anything you like. I caution
against touching the front surface mirrors. You can also adjust the
rangefinder. When done, put the screws back and glue the leather back
with rubber cement. (Do not use paper glue).
