The image views are interlaced vertically in a similar way to lenticular
prints, but viewed through a series of slits rather than lenses. Each eye
looks through the slits at a different angle, so sees a different set of
image stripes. If you're having trouble visualising this try looking
through the gaps in your fingers, with your arm at full stretch. Now wink
(or cover) each eye in turn.
Not having the lenticular print's lenses tends to give it better
sharpness. Not having the barrier print's, well, barriers gives the lent
better brightness. Both can get into trouble with pseudo or double images
if you view from the wrong angles.
