P3D mail threading programs

In looking at the bandwidth requirements and maintainability of the 
*3d lists,one interesting technique is the use of threaded mail lists.
If anyone is using or has extensive knowledge of any of these that 
will run either under Unix or Win95, I'd be interested in exchanging
notes. I'm aware of hypermail, but as of the last time I looked at
it, I wasn't terribly impressed with it's threading capabilities nor
the indexes it generated.
