P3D real value

I didn't mean to imply that if I wanted it, I just bid until I got it...

I spend the great majority of my working day attempting to differentiate
between price and value.

I also have a number of collections which I feed on occassion, ranging from
children's books by certain authors, through antique mah-jong sets, some
categories of stereo cards, and a few other useless things. I watch the
prices as well as anyone else, I hope, and if it is trading at or near fair
value, and I don't have it yet, I will bid what I feel it is worth. As a
good rule of thumb, I lose many more than I win, because as we all know,
there are in fact some raving idiots out there. And, if one is patient,
another will come along.

On the other hand, I must admit that I HAVE been fortunate, and what I was
attempting to convey is that my time is in fact fairly valuable relative to
some others.. and that if I do find something, and the bidding is close, I
will gladly pay perhaps an extra dollar or two - the value of my time if I
find something which I have been searching for.. But like anyone else, I
surely know the value of my specialties, and try not to overbid.

Sorry if I left the wrong impression,

Bob Schreiber (Dr. S - for my PhD and ex-Associate Prof. of Biochemistry.
Believe me, I also know the agony of academics)
