In the viewers I had, the chopping off of a tiny strip at the top of
the image appeared to be related to the design or construction of the
opening where the diffuser goes. There are two layers of cardboard
and the diffuser material sits between the two layers. The openings
in the two layers are different sizes and shapes, and overlap in such
a way that the aggregate opening is quite a bit smaller than either
separate opening. By taking a knife to one layer of the cardboard
I was able to trim away a tiny strip to enlarge the overall opening
and eliminate the image truncation problem. (Thus the lenses don't
seem to be the culprits.) I didn't have an exacto knife handy to
do this surgery, and attempting to cut the cardboard with scissors
and a sharp pocket knife resulted in more of a "shredding" of the
cardboard than a cutting of it. I was left with a very ugly ragged
edge to the top of the stereo window. I decided to live with the
image truncation on the other 9 viewers.

That is definitely the strong point of these viewers.
