They are totally different. Polarization has nothing to do with it. Liquid
Crystal lenses work like the LCD numbers on your watch, going either dark
or clear according to a tiny pulse. In this case, the lenses in the two
eyes flicker, and they block out each eye in turn many times per second,
allowing each eye to see sequential pictures which the brain thinks are
being seen simultaneously.
