P3D Cleveland club - January report

It was cold last night in Cleveland! Public schools (and most
schools) were closed for second day in a row... Lots of ice in small
roads...

Under these conditions, some stereo clubs would be closed... But
not the Ohio Stereo Photographic Society! :-) 20 stereo enthusiasts
made it to the meeting... and enjoyed a fine stereo presentation
by Don Peck from his travels to Europe in 1983. Some 200 slides in a
fast paste and with recorded music and narration. This was the
result of one month's traveling. All recorded in Kodachrome with
a Realist stereo camera... A treat for the eyes...

Competition subject was animals... Lots of good pictures of all kinds
of animals. First place went to Don Peck for "Big Horn Sheep"...
Don also won a second place for "Rocky Mountain Goat"... Some of
Don's great nature slides... Judges said his pictures have everything
they wanted to see in a stereo slide. People's Choice went to
Ron Fross' charming portrait of his dog Shep, which also took a second
place (it was a close race between this and Don's first place).

Talking about judging, Mark Hatfield who flies from Florida to come
to our meetings (well... actually he flies to Columbus and then
drives to Cleveland) was a judge for the first time in his life
with very little experience in recording stereo pictures. He did
great as evidence by his comments in some of the entries (our judges
comment on every single slide after scoring is completed). Great
beginning for Mark!

An interesting thing... When the meeting was over, no one, I mean
NO ONE, got up to leave. We said, "OK, the meeting is over" and
everyone was sitting there as if they are waiting for more... And
indddeed, we started talking about more stereo subjects... That's
what Bill Patterson observed in Stereo World for our first meeting:
"the meeting was very enjoyable, with lots of interaction, and with
no rush to leave after the official proceedings were over... Small
groups stayed around discussing special interests."

Some of you will read all the details in the February issue of the
Stereogram. A special treat: Interview with Don Peck. In addition
to being an excellent and well-traveled stereo photographer, Don
is also the inventor of Stereograms with a Patent to prove it!
Parts of the Patent will be reproduced in the article. Don't
miss it!!! (If you are not a subscriber please send email for
details on how to subscribe).

Greetings from Cleveland where the snow is falling fast...
