P3D Olympus XA twin rig question

Friends in 3-d:

I am working on my Olympus XA slave/master twin rig.  I have not gotten
far.  Although I have obtained Ed Romney's Olympus XA service manual, it
leaves me stumped very early on in the disassembly instructions.

The top plate of the camera is shown held on by several screws, one of
which is underneath the orange plastic shutter release button.  I removed
all the other screws easily but cannot figure out how to get to the one
under the button.  The manual treats this as a "fait accompli(sp?)", simply
showing the button hovering above the top plate, apparently easily removed.
But my efforts at prying it up are just marring it, and I don't want to
break it.

Help! Anyone?
