P3D New Tripod

There has been too much philosophical discussion lately. Lets get 
back to discussing the things that are really important - taking and 
viewing stereo photographs.

I received a new tripod for Christmas that is so perfect I thought I 
would let you know about it.

It is made by Manfrotto and sold though Bogen. It is a new model 
(3401) that has some niffty features. The center support comes out 
and can be put in a horizontal position (it also comes with a second 
shorter center support). The legs can be spread out to three 
lockable positions including almost flat. These two features can 
combine to allow you to photograph just about anything at any 
height from a bug in the grass on up. The horizontal feature is also 
great for copy work or other shots where you need to shoot straight 
down. It is also great for setting up in uneven ground with the 
individually adjustable legs

I am using the Grip Action Ball Head (3265) which allows a full 180 
degree sphere of movement. Simply squeeze the handle, position 
the camera and let go and there it stays. It even has a built in level 
for those that need it.

The tripod will extend to 67 inches with another 8 inches added for 
the Ball Head. The tripod weighs 5.73 pounds and the head weighs 
1.72 pounds for a total weight of just under 7.5 pounds. The tripod 
can support up to 13.2 pounds and the head up to 5.5 pounds.

This was a present so I don't know the exact price, but I beleive 
B&H sells the tripod for just over $100.00 and the Grip Action Ball 
Head for just over $60.00. That might sound like a lot, but it is truely 
worth the cost.
