P3D Re: re: Steroscopic Photography

You (we) were given such a pretty name and you want to change it? A name
that has stood for
150 years now... Don't you have any respect for history?<<<<
I vote with Dr. T : Stereoscopic Photography is what we do and what it is,
let's not be bullied off our little corner by people that are overusing 3D
or stereo. When I tell people either "I take 3D photos," or "I take
stereoscopic photos" I get the same reply: What's that? Which gives me a
great opportunity to educate someone, and often to get them to look at a few
of my best which I so often have within reach. I'd get the same reaction
with any of the other suggested words, probably with more confusion since
they haven't been in use for the last century & 1/2.
I think, to really get the word out, we need to have our own postage stamp.
Rather, two postage stamps, a left and a right. We'll have to wait until the
first class rate hits an even number so the two stamps can be congruent. I
got this idea while walking to the P.O. to mail my dollar to Bob Weir
(thanks to Tom Deering for the suggestion) and thinking about the inadequacy
of those two flat stamps, sitting there side by side with no hope of
freeviewing. What a waste.
So, we've got a year or so to lobby the post office. Let's put the 1000+
P3D'rs on the job, surely the system will begin to buckle under the weight
of 1000 pieces of mail! Just think of being able to view OW Holmes or Seton
Rochewite or the 3D God in glorious stereoscope, fantastic technicolor, and
(by then why not?) stereophonic sound.
