Hello all,

First, this is cross-posted on P3D. However, please direct replies to
SD-3D as I expect the discussion to get technical in nature.

I am contemplating the purchase of a scanner to be used, in part, to
scan slides. I am interested in the following two scanners.

The first scanner I'm looking at is a Microtek Scanmaker X6EL It's a 36
bit scanner with a film/slide adapter. The adapter looks like a light
bar that plugs into the scanner. You (probably) place your film/slides
on the scanner bed and then cover them with this unit. You can see the
item at...

Make sure this is all on one line for your browser to find it properly.

The second scanner that caught my eye is the Acerscan 620ST. It too is
a 36 bit scanner (600 x 1200) with the transparency option (slides &
negs) built in. You can see the info on this scanner at...

The Microtek is $203.99 and the Acerscan is $166.95. Both are SCSI
compatible which is fine as I have a SCSI card already installed in my
system (although the Acerscan comes with one!).

Does anyone have any experiences with either of these? I have not seen
either at my local MicroCenter/CompUSA/<generic computer store> to
really review it. I kinda like the idea of the Acerscan because the
transparency option is built in.

Any info you can pass on would be greatly appreciated. I'm still
scanning for any reports I can find on either of these. If either has
already been talked about here, please point me to the archives. I
don't recall these specific models though. Of course, I am over 40 so
my memory is starting to deteriorate :-)

TIA,
Ron
