We have a el cheapo Mitsumi 2x4 CD-R writer in
a Win 95 box (this is an IDE interface). Running on a 133 Mhz
Pentium (I), with the Adaptek Software. It was worked flawlessly,
even making perfect disks from other WIN95 machines directly
from our LAN. I'm most impressed as it's working with TDK
green surface $1 each 650 MB blanks. I've yet to make a coaster.
I've seen these (internal) for around $250 or so. I've not
found any reader in our labs which can't handle the disks.
I've even found a way to make MAC HFS compatible disks with
it, although it's a bit of a kludge, and only works on a Mac
running system 7.1 or later.
I don't know if we got lucky with this particular unit, or
if they are all this good, but this one is great.
