OK, This is such a good idea that maybe the time has come to do something
about it. I have a significant amount of web space available to me, and I
could offer to host such a gallery with a few stipulations...

1. Due to the rules imposed by my ISP, any images or web content that I
include on my site that originates from other artists must not be construed
as the web site *for* that artist. I am not allowed to sub-host...

2. However, since my entire web site is dedicated to the furtherance and
enjoyment of stereoscopic images on the internet, it's totally within reason
to invite my friends from P3D to submit *some* of their stereo images for
posting within *my* open gallery.

3. The web space provided for these images will be simply display space and
not considered to be advertising for the artists represented there. Any
advertising for your services in any form based on stereo images should be
done from your own website. For now I will suggest a limit of 10 images per
artist and see how that works out.

4. Participating artists must provide the image in a ready to display
format. That means in one or two sizes of JPS image plus smaller JPG
thumbnails for link access to the larger images. If it's easier for you, I
will accept JPG images that are pre-edited for your presentation and I can
easily change them to JPS without affecting the image at all.

5. You can include an image title and a brief description of any artistic
factors relating to your image. What camera you used, any special notes
about how or what the image represents, etc.

6. I prefer that your thumbnails be stereoscopic thumbnails. The intention
is stereo from start to finish within the gallery. The exception to this is
that any text will be intentioned for direct ordinary reading.

7. Backgrounds for presentation can be any solid color, or a provided
stereoscopic texture of either side by side tilable or anaglyphic format.
Since I have hundreds of such patterns to start with, you are welcome to
select from any of my patterns or make your own. It's best that you state
how you want the presentation to look explicitly.

8. Images chosen for presentation within this special gallery will be there
only for a limited time. This cannot be considered to be a permanent *home*
for the images. It's also more interesting if the gallery changes in
appearance over time.

9. I reserve the right to edit any image or textual content, or refuse to
post content for any reason at any time. Typically I may edit an image that
needs better alignment between L and R images. If it's bad enough or I'm too
busy I may ask you to correct the problem.

10. Copyright will remain with the owners of the images presented (email
link). It is your responsibility to add any notices to your images in this
regards.

It is my current intention to use the JAVA applet for this gallery and to
include direct links to the stereo images so that any visitor from anywhere,
using any software can gain access as directly as possible to the images.
Currently that means specifically that the embed tag will NOT be used
anywhere. Use of the embed tag is extremely problematic and restricts access
to the images to only one brand name of access device. That is unacceptable
to my goal with this gallery, or for the general proliferation and promotion
of stereo images on the internet.

In addition to the gallery itself, it is my intention to organize or support
the existence of image contests. I do not have specific plans at this
moment, but the general idea is that at the beginning level, the artist
chooses which images to present. At later levels, a separate gallery will
host images submitted for judging by the viewing public. Later yet, winning
entries from previous contests may be combined for additional comparison and
judging events. It's possible by that point to have found sponsors who may
provide prize money or goodies for the winners.

If this turns out to be heavily used, I may consider getting further
involved by registering with my ISP to *resell* web space to those who wish
a more permanent home on the internet. The rates are very low, the bandwidth
and storage is currently still labeled officially as *unlimited*. I do know
of one customer who ended up losing on that promise though. He must have
really clogged up traffic for them to back down on the unlimited bit. If I
handle this carefully and within the rules, I don't expect to create any
problems. Considering the total situation, if for any reason my ISP drops on
my head with extreme force, I may have to re-design this gallery idea, or
drop it entirely. I don't expect that to happen.

If others are able to offer similar galleries, or have their own galleries
and want to be involved in any contests that arise, I will arrange a links
page to connect participants. The only stipulation being that images must be
openly accessible.

Any comments, questions?
