P3D Answer: de Wijs Easy STL Viewer
Many of you have heard of Hugo de Wijs, the Dutchman stereo expert
who specializes in stereo optical devices. He is certainly a person
who knows how to get people interested in 3D. After all, that's
his job!
Mr. de Wijs makes a variety of viewers. You might have heard of
the legendary Comby, or the multi-slide viewer or the VM viewer.
But you might have missed the de Wijs EASY viewer. This is the
"smaller brother" of the Comby. And, as I have discovered, it is
the ideal viewer to carry around to show your best work to
strangers. I'll tell you why...
This viewer has the following characteristics:
1. Compact (small size, easy to carry, easy to hold)
2. Sturdy built with carefully machined aluminum and professionally
looking, a precision instrument to impress your "victim".
3. Individually adjusted lenses and adjustable interocular can be
preset (as Abram described) for "universal viewing", they cannot
be easily knocked out of alignment.
4. Extremely sharp lenses, corner to corner, no distortion, delivers
the image at its best. Large size (23 mm dia.) make it easy for
everyone to see, even "full frame" (RBT 33 mm) stereo slides.
60 mm FL, very easy for the eyes. Excellent eye relief. I can
pull the viewer full 2 inches (50 mm) away from my eyes and stil
see the full "Realist" 5p image. (Tell people to keep their
glasses on! No problem seeing with glasses.)
5. Amazing available light gathering ability! I read that this is
due to the three-layer cobalt glass diffuser. Whatever it is,
you have to see it to believe it!
I have already created a small pocket in my camera back and intend
to carry this viewer around and show samples to everyone who asks
(or even without asking!) I have tested the viewer extensively with
friends and strangers at work. Every one seems to be reacting extremely
positively to the viewing experience. Have not had any one say that
they have any problem whatsoever seeing with it. A guy today, after
seeing a few stereo slides, is coming to our next club meeting!
To be continued...
