P3D de Wijs Easy STL Viewer - Epilogue
Let me try and answer a few questions here:
1. "Are you seriously suggesting that we carry a $375 viewer in our
camera bag to show slides to strangers?"
Yes, I am dead serious about that. That's what I will do. Not only
to show slides to strangers but use it to view slides yourself!
2. "Wouldn't a $3.25 or $10 viewer with plastic smaller lenses, lighter,
less fragile, be better for this job?"
If you want to show first class images, sharp & bright, the EASY is the
way to go. If you want to compromise, sure go with the cheaper viewers.
Also, add the RBT folding STL viewer ($10) in the list of portable
inexpensive viewers.
3. "Isn't the 60 mm FL of the EASY viewers a bit too long?"
No, I think it is perfect for showing slides to strangers. Shorter than
that might be a bit too much for those not accustomed to stereo. The
extra FL creates a stretch that generally enhances stereo images (sounds
like I am contradicting myself here with earlier statements I have made,
but I am not..)
4. "If we are going to go for a de Wijs viewer, wouldn't the COMBY make
better sense?"
The Comby is larger, has larger (32 mm dia) lenses of shorter FL
(50 or 45 mm) and converting it from 41x101 to 2x2x2 is a snap. Other
than that, the two viewers are very similar. If you want a viewer
mainly to enjoy yourself and don't want to carry around then maybe
the COMBY is the way to go. But if you want a viewer to carry around
to show slides to friends and strangers then the EASY fits the bill
better. (If in doubt, get both, as I have done! :-))
5. "Where can I get more info, prices, etc. for the de Wijs viewers?"
As far as I know, 3dman is your man. Contact him at:
